IMPASSE
No picture I draw is ever as pretty as you
No poem I read is as haunting as you
No February wind is ever as cold as you
You’re not impressed by me
We’re at an impasse
I wait for it to pass
We really could’ve been something
Months pass
Alas,
I find
On this first April rainy day
I should let you go
I gave it quite a go
Although,
Already
I met someone who sees something in me
A muse of some sort
One who believes in me
And although I can’t help but wonder
What we could’ve been
Chasing you
Leads to
Stagnation
And it
Will do nothing for me.
ELEVATED PERSPECTIVES
You can’t be courageous unless you’re afraid,
Taking a clear stance where you might lose something.
Elevate my landscape,
Rooted in a sense of nature.
Bring me joy,
Not despondence.
I SABOTAGED EVERYTHING
Rejection is imminent;
I see it.
You see—
I'll end it before you can.
I'll ruin it
if I see the direction it's headed.
One excuse, and I'm out.
Love is the true essence of my being.
I put myself out there,
but I'll take it back.
Love is all around me;
a little bit of grace goes a long way.
You were the closest thing I had to it in a while.
The groveling decreased my value.
Champagne hangover,
wrestling with regret.
I tried to rise above,
but it was cheap heat.
I buried myself,
and the rejection was imminent.
I had to end it before you could—
I sabotaged it and ruined it all.
There's no paper trail,
not even a trace of you.
It's like it never happened.
Rejection was imminent,
that little voice in my head telling me.
